Meet Peter: A Volunteer for Claire
Monday, September 24, 2012
Peter Luong is an intern in the St. Louis City office. He's part of our statewide grassroots effort to contact voters and to ultimately turn out the vote on Nov. 6th to re-elect our Democratic candidates.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Peter: I'm a senior at Bayless High School. I'm involved in a number of things there including theatre and student council. In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with family and friends, and doing pretty much anything outdoors.
What first got you interested in politics?
Peter: Most, if not all, of the kids at my school have no idea what happens in the world of politics at all. I realized that if I wanted to be a benefit to society, I couldn't remain ignorant about this stuff anymore.
Why did you choose to volunteer for Claire?
Peter: I knew that working on this campaign would be an experience of a lifetime, and I couldn't pass it up.
What issue is most important to you in this campaign?
Peter: Definitely education. I'm going off to college next year, and Todd Akin's idea of getting rid of federal financial aid sounds awful to me. Supporting Claire is a benefit to my future.
What has been your favorite part about volunteering for Claire?
Peter: All the people I get to meet out while I'm canvassing. They all have different things to say about the election and love being able to communcate some policies of Claire's.
